Legacies

Legacies

Founded in 1986, Swan Lifeline is the oldest registered charity devoted entirely to the care of sick and injured swans in the Thames Valley and surrounding areas. Our work is only possible through donations, legacies and support from the general public, grants, trustees and volunteers.

With the kind donations and legacies we have received, over 30,000 swans and cygnets have been rescued and treated to date.

Please consider leaving something to us in your will.

Leave a gift in your Will

Arranging to leave a legacy in your Will is simple.

If you have already made a Will, the simplest way to leave a legacy to Swan Lifeline is by means of a Codicil or by a Letter of Wishes. Alternatively, if you are preparing a new Will, there are four common types of legacy you can use to leave a gift to Swan Lifeline. These include;

  1. A residuary gift
  2. A cash or pecuniary gift
  3. A specific gift
  4. A reversionary gift

Your solicitor will be able to advise you as to the most appropriate legacy to meet your personal requirements.

Inheritance tax-free status

As a charitable organisation, Swan Lieline has an inheritance tax-free status which means that any legacy you leave is free of inheritance tax. This is something you may want to consider when talking to your solicitor.

Keep us informed

Writing or amending a Will is a very private and delicate matter. If you would like to let us know about your intentions to include Swan Lifeline in your Will we would be extremely grateful. Please email us at legacies@swanlifeline.uk
